This was our second firing this year and our tenth firing in total of the woodfired kiln. The weather was a bit inclement and we delayed our planned day of firing the kiln to avoid the rain. This gave us plenty of time for glazing and packing the kiln. I think we did a good pack and there was plenty of space. As usual Nigel started the firing in the early hours and I joined him around 7 am. The firing was relatively straight forward and we started around midday and then it took the rest of afternoon to get the cone 10 down with nice soak for an hour and a half. We finished around 7:30 pm. It took 36 hours for the kiln to cool down to 240C. The kiln opening was as exciting as ever. We were very pleased with the pots that came out of the kiln. We both had some particularly nice ones. I now have plenty of pots for Potfest in Melton Mowbury 4th, 5th and 6th November.

Postfest in the Pens, Penrith October 2024
I was fortunate enough to have a stall at Potfest in Penrith. There were over 100 potters and there was a great atmosphere. It was lovely to meet so many other potters. The show ran over three days and there was a good foot fall. The weather was very changeable with heavy rain and high…
Woodfiring in Scotland October 2024
Autumn had arrived and it was time to travel up to Scotland to fire the woodfired kiln. This was our 14th firing and we were confident that all would go well as we now considered ourselves relatively experienced wood firers. The weather was fare and not too chilly. We spent a day and half glazing…
Oxfordshire Art Week at the Holy Cross May 2024
I participated in Oxfordshire Art Weeks in May joining once again a art and crafts group at Shipton on Cherwell. The Holy Cross is a great venue if rather unorthodox. I had my usual place next to the pulpit. Despite my bad back I managed to have a good time and as ever there was…
