After a long break due to COVID I returned to Ireland to visit Marcus O’Mahony to help him fire is new improved Anagama kiln. This was a 52 hour firing involving several people including Jim Behan. It was great to catch up with everyone after such a long period and it was lovely to be back in Ireland again. I brought a few pots over with me and Marcus had some of my pots from previous visits that I could put in the kiln. I met up with Nigel Webster and we did the first night shift. It was interesting experiencing a longer firing than we usually do in Scotland. Generally we had to hold ourselves back in putting wood in the kiln. The firing went well and the end results were good although there wasn’t as much reduction than we had hoped. As ever woodfiring is a constant learning experience. Looking forward to Nigel and my next firing in Scotland in September.
