Anagama Woodfiring in Ireland 2025

Travelled over to Marcus O’Mahony at Glencairn Pottery, Co Waterford in May with @nigelwebster21. Marcus had arranged for Korean potter Tae Sungyong to visit and run a two day workshop combined with firing of the anagama kiln. The kiln was already half loaded when we arrived and it took a couple of days to finish the loading. We started the firing on Friday evening and continued until Sunday late afternoon. We reached cone 12 down on Saturday evening and undertook two heavy wood loading pushes to create a good ember bed. Nigel and I travelled out West Cork to do a bit sight seeing while the kiln cooled down. As ever opening the kiln was filled with anticipation. However we were not disappointed with the pots that came out of the kiln. We certainty reached a high temperature and there were plenty of great ash effects. In total there were around 280 pots that came out of the kiln. It was one of the best firings of Marcus’ anagama kiln. We went home very happy.
